Q: Which is better for MX 18" or 20" tires and why?
chris
A: For MX, 18" rear tires are better. The wheel rotation speed can change faster. There is less weight. There is more bite due to the sharper wheel arch. But most of all, the sidewalls are shorter, allowing for less tire roll and squish in turns and jumps. All around, the 18" tires give tighter control.
For CC, 20" or 22" tires are better. For rocks, roots, mud, etc of CC tracks, the 18" tires are to small. Plus, the 18" MX tires are to soft and thin for CC tracks where there are sharp rocks and such.
